About us

Codecool is a growing network of international coding schools in the EU. Our mission is to reinvent IT education and solve the ever-growing IT talent gap of companies by giving coding careers to a wide range of people. Codecool is already present in 4 countries (Hungary, Poland, Romania & Austria). We changed the lives of more than 2000 students through coding by providing training and jobs for them.

Your role

For a start, you would join our β€œonline” mentor team which means you will work fully remote.

Your main task and your focus will be on our students! Supporting them, mentoring them, coaching them, doing everything you can in order to help them to gather the knowledge to be successfully chosen for a junior position.

You will work closely with your team leader, other mentors from all our locations, the local country manager, team members, and external partners.Β

Your tasks

πŸ‘‰ supervising and enhancing existing learning projects about the whole spectrum of a junior full-stack developer. That helps if you have basic knowledge of our tech stack and a deeper understanding of some topics (JS, NodeJS, React, Java, C#, .Net, Spring);

πŸ‘‰ mentoring – not preaching. Helping students learn via interactive workshops and being available to support and guide them while they are solving practical challenges in project-based tasks. They will learn concepts and theory via self-study;

πŸ‘‰ learning and following the tried-and-tested Codecool mastery-based learning model, demand-based curriculum, and growth mindset approach. We have successfully working models and processes for you at hand, however your ideas are welcome, we truly believe in continuous improvement.

Our ideal candidate

βœ”οΈ has 16 hours/weekend (8 hours on Saturday + 8 hours on Sunday) to support our students;

βœ”οΈ for the first 2 modules we are looking for developers who already have experience in the following technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, MongoDB, ExpressJS, git;

βœ”οΈ for modules 3 & 4 => Java + Spring / C# + .NET;

βœ”οΈ speaks fluent Romanian and English;

βœ”οΈ believes in practice-oriented, project-based learning;

βœ”οΈ understands the difference between teaching and mentoring;

βœ”οΈ is positive and patient;

βœ”οΈ loves to learn and grow;

βœ”οΈ can be new to mentoring: no previous teaching experience is required.

Course schedule:

The following 3 types of week structures will be repeating:

  • Week 1 (SI = self-instructed + support): 18 hours self-study (in flexible way, maybe 14 hours on weekends, 4 hours during the week, but it’s up to the students), 2 fixed hours on Saturday (to help students if they get stuck)
  • Week 2 (SI+ review+ start TW): 4 hours self-study during the week, 16 fixed hours with mentors on Saturday and Sunday (this would cover SI reviews, workshops/live codings/dojos and then starting the team project in the second half of Sunday while mentors are still there)
  • Week 3 (TW = teamwork, +demo+prepare SI): 4 hours teamwork during the week, 16 fixed hours with mentors on Saturday and Sunday (this could cover working on team projects while mentors are there on Saturday, then on Sunday demos, TW reviews, retros and then preparation for the solo projects with workshops/live codings)

Why is it great to work with us?

πŸ’« you will work with great, open-minded people, who are here for the same reason: to make an impact on others' lives and help them to become a programmer!

πŸ’« you will be working in a company where flexibility, freedom, and ownership are not just meaningless values on the wall - we are living these values every day!

πŸ’« you will earn a developer salary, while you are helping people change their lives

πŸ’« we are a flat organisation, if you have an idea and the motivation to make it happen, there is no bureaucracy that stops you, it will happen!
